Jakob Friedrich Schöllkopf


Who was Jakob Friedrich Schöllkopf?

Jakob Friedrich Schöllkopf was born in 1819 as the twelfth of 15 children. His parents were Heinrich Schöllkopf and Christiana-Margaretha Mayer.
At the age of 15 he began to learn the profession of his father. Then he practiced a commercial activity that brought him further practical experience.
When he was 21 he immigrated to the US (1840). There he arranged his first textile industry. Later on he changed to engineering and electricity. His basis was in Buffalo and New York and he also had an electricity station at Niagara Falls. There a bridge is named after him.
On 15th September 1899 Jakob Friedrich Schöllkopf died at the age of 80 years in his new home in Buffalo.
He was a very successful man but in this time he never forgot his original town Kirchheim/Teck and he also gave a lot of money to charities in our region.
